Behind the Scenes
We often look at photographs without regard for the process of creating them. Great photographs take time. Here is a photo essay and a look behind the scenes story of the photograph Lafayette Park.
"I had seen an image in Dwell that was shot at the same location and decided it would work well for one of the Lafayette Park images in the book. I’ve always been a fan of both the Metropolitan and the Mustang so I found them in local collections and asked the owners to bring them to the location. The homeowners and the car owners were all very excited about the shoot and watched the whole time. I felt a higher camera angle would reveal more of the architecture and had the camera around 8 feet off the ground. I tried a few different variations on car placement and I’d say the shoot lasted for three hours. We had a beautiful day and I really love the light filtering through the trees." - James Haefner
